Knitwear label Sibling co-founder Joe Bates passed away
Knitwear label Sibling is a London based brand started in 2008 by Cozette McCreery, Joe Bates, and Sid Bryan. The three designers together started the successful set up and have been through thick and thin. However sad demise of one of the co-founders Joe Bates has left a gap. The creative director for Sibling, Joe Bates had been suffering with cancer for a long time and had passed away during the weekend.
The news was confirmed in the afternoon on Tuesday by the brand itself using Twitter as the medium. However it was first reported on Instagram by Love magazine. No Information is known about his exact age.
The three designers came together to launch this knitwear brand in May, 2008. Born and brought up in Leicester, England, Joe Bates became the creative director with his own brand. Sibling had recently put up a show for their spring collection this June.
The menswear collection of 2016 was showcased for the first time in London which was co-designed by designer Joe Bates. He was listed as a creative director on LinkedIn till March, 2013. The creative director has also worked for Jaeger from January 2010 to November 2012 which is near about three years where he worked as the head of design.
While Bates served as the creative director for Sibling, all his designs were cheerful and bright. Even the offshoot womenswear, Sister by Sibling is very colorful and cheeky. The brand has won many awards including the Woolmark Prize in June 2013 which is quite a prestigious award in Europe. Both the labels, Sister by Sibling and Sibling are very famous for its light and bright colorful nature. The use of English silhouettes by the brand is extremely popular. It is reported that the label will continue to run even after Joe Bates demise.
