Louise Wilson Is Replaced By Fabio Piras
The Central Saint Martins MA course director professor Louise Wilson‘s unfortunate death in the month of May was a shock to everyone. Fabio Piras has been declared by Central Saint Martins as the official successor of Louise Wilson. Piras has worked for 8 years with Wilson and has been looking after the student after the sad demise.
A CSM representative told British Vogue, “In addition to his contribution to postgraduate teaching at CSM, Fabio brings 20 years of international industry experience, showing his own eponymous label during London fashion week from 1994 until 2000, and since enjoying a successful career in both creative direction and consultancy for luxury fashion brands in Europe and China. Fabio’s vision will build on Louise’s legacy of creative excellence and will shape a new era for MA fashion education at CSM.”
Italian-born Piras had made spectacular contributions in late 90s. He has worked for London Fashion Week from 1994 for six years. After that he started working at Saint Martins and has been doing consultancy for brands all over Europe and China. Like Wilson he was known to force students so they give their best! Losing Wilson was a big loss not only to Saint Martins but also to London fashion industry. Wilson was known to give out the best talent.
Famous personalities like Hussein Chalayan and Alexander McQueen are trained under Wilson. In recent times people who did big contributions at London Fashion Week are Richard Nicoll Jonathan Saunders, Roksanda Ilincic, and last but not the least Christopher Kane. These all people are trained by Wilson. They all admit of having great influence of Wilson on their work. There is big fear about Wilson never getting replaced. Piras has huge expectations to fulfill, but looking at his work done in the field he is indeed the best replacement.
