Michelle Obama to Host a Workshop on Fashion Education!
It looks like the student has become the master, finally. WWD has reported that Michelle Obama will be hosting a workshop on fashion education in D.C. on 8th October. It will be for students of high school and university level. The workshop will have participation from the area and also variety of leading industry professionals as well as designers will be involved, needless to say that it will be hosted at the white House.
We know that at this moment Michelle Obama’s preference is for the American designers. It is not at all surprising that the panelists are Prabal Gurung, Bibhu Mohapatra, Maria Cornejo, and Reed Krakoff. The panel also has executives from Naeem Khan and Jimmy Choo. What is more interesting is that people from the fashion world are invited for the post-workshop celebration event! They are Diane von Furstenberg, Thakoon Panichgul, Jason Wu and Thom Browne. Do we need to mention that all of them have planned to attend?
The white house official statement says,’ On October 8, the White House will hold a fashion education workshop that will connect students with leading fashion professionals—from designers to magazine editors to fashion technologists—to show young people what it takes to succeed, and how important it is for the next generation to commit to their education’. The workshop no doubt will be fantastic opportunity for students as they will learn about the industry directly from the leaders.
First Lady Michelle Obama is proving to have real interest in the field of fashion and trend. But it’s not the first time when Obama has displayed her passion for education in the field of fashion. At the time of ribbon cutting ceremony for Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the year 2014, the First Lady was seen accompanied by Anna Wintour, who is editor in chief of Vogue. She also spoke about the importance of education in the field of fashion.
