Reduce Your Anxiety With Good Self-Care

Anxiety is a complex mental health issue which affects every aspect of the sufferer’s life, and while it is important to obtain medical help to combat this disease, there are ways that you can reduce the symptoms with good self-care. That doesn’t negate the need for a doctor’s advice, but it can help you to feel better. With that in mind, below are some of the best, practical ways you can help yourself.

Talk It Through

Talking about what is troubling you can help when it comes to getting some relief from your anxiety. Having someone there to listen to you can be enough; they don’t even need to offer any advice or information about what to do next. You can talk to friends and family or, if you prefer to speak with an understanding stranger, you can call a helpline and talk to someone who is there solely to listen to you.

Make Sure Your Physical Health Doesn’t Suffer

If your mental health is causing you problems, then it is easy for your physical health to suffer as a result. When this happens, you are in danger of having a heart attack, stroke or suffering from ulcers amongst other things, and that will make your anxiety much worse. Therefore:

  • Get enough sleep: It can be hard when you are suffering from anxiety, but some rest is better than nothing at all.
  • Eat well: When you are feeling unwell, you might be tempted to eat quick snacks or lots of takeouts, or even skip meals altogether just because it’s easier. However, it’s far better to eat a well-balanced diet. Doing so will make you feel healthier and help your body fight the problems you are going through.
  • Exercise: Exercise is not only good for your physical health, but it is good for your mental health too. When you exercise, you are focusing on something other than your anxiety, and this can help to put things in perspective.

Try Alternative Therapies

For some, standard therapies just don’t work, and they don’t like the idea of using chemicals and non-natural products to assist them in reducing their anxiety. If this sounds like you, there are plenty of alternative therapies you can try that have been shown to have a positive effect on reducing the symptoms of anxiety. These include:

  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Massage
  • Reflexology
  • Buy CBD products
  • Herbal treatments
  • Meditation
  • Aromatherapy

Keep A Journal

Many people find that keeping a journal or diary can help them with their anxiety as well as other mental health problems such as depression. Write down everything you are feeling in your journal each day, and you should eventually be able to see a pattern of what triggers your anxiety. When you know this (and it may not be plain to see to begin with), you can avoid it where possible in order to stay healthier.

You can also use your diary to write down all the things that you are grateful for in your life. Use this to look back on when you are dealing with your anxiety, and it will calm you significantly and remind you of all the good things you have.
