BET Awards 2014: The Winners

The 2014 BET Awards ceremony was a popular event, with awards presented to entertainers in different categories including music and movies

This year the 2014 BET Awards function took place on Sunday June 29, 2014 at Los Angeles, California, had life performance by many artists, and awards were announced in different categories.

The biggest winner was the pop singer Beyonce Knowles who won three awards, including the viewers choice award the FANdemonium award. Other winners of multiple awards were male pop artist Pharrell Williams and new artist August Alsina. The ceremony was hosted by Chris Rock, who distributed chicken and waffles from Roscoe’s at the event .

The event was marred by violence which took place before the event at two different preshow parties, where one man was shot to death, and another was stabbed, though the organizers claim that the preshow parties were not connected to the awards function in any way.

Noted musician Lionel Ritchie was honoured with a lifetime achievement award for his contribution to music. The winners of the different awards at the 2014 BET awards are listed below

  • Best Movie – 12 Years a slave
  • Best Actress – Lupita Nyong’ o
  • Best Actor – Chiwetel Ejiofor
  • Video of the Year – “Happy” by Pharrell Williams
  • Best Male Hip Hop Artist – Drake
  • Best Female Hip Hop Artist – Nicki Minaj
  • Best group – Young Money
  • Subway sportsman of the year – Kevin Durant
  • Subway sportswoman of the year – Serena Williams
  • Best Gospel Artist – Tamela Mann
  • Best New Artist – August Alsina
  • Youngstars award – Keke Palmer
  • Centric award – Jhene Aiko – “The Worst”
  • Best International Act : UK
  • Krept & Konan
  • Video director of the year :
  • Hype williams
  • Best International Act : Africa
  • Davido (Nigeria)

In most categories, 5 individuals or entries were short listed, and one winner for each category was announced at the BET 2014 awards function.
